Motorcyclists have always taken care of one another. From stopping on the shoulder to help a downed rider to checking in during fuel stops, the motorcycle community understands that when something goes wrong, we are often the first line of support. The new BikerDown HELP App is designed to strengthen that tradition by giving riders and their fellow motorcyclists a practical tool to use when an emergency happens.

Riders can download the app on their smartphones by searching “BikerDown HELP.” While currently in testing, the app is being built to support a national database of motorcycle riders and their critical emergency information—information that can make a real difference when time matters most.

Building a National In Case of Emergency Database

One of the biggest challenges following a motorcycle accident is identifying the injured rider and knowing who to contact and what medical considerations may exist. Even riders who regularly travel together may not know each other’s full names, medical history, or family contact information.

In an upcoming app upgrade, riders will be able to complete an expanded In Case of Emergency (ICE) section that includes:

  • Emergency contacts the rider specifically wants notified

  • Medical information that may be important in an emergency

  • Doctor and healthcare provider information

This information is voluntarily entered by the rider and stored in the BikerDown system so it can be referenced when a help request is made.

Help Requests Made by Riders on Scene

It’s important to understand that the BikerDown HELP App does not automatically detect crashes or know when a rider has been in an accident. Instead, it relies on what has always worked best in the motorcycle community—other riders stepping in to help.

If a rider is injured and unable to make a call themselves, another rider on scene can submit a help request through the app. Once BikerDown receives that request, the team can:

  • Check the database to see if the injured rider is registered

  • Review any available emergency or medical information

  • Begin contacting the rider’s designated emergency contacts

This process helps ensure that families are notified sooner rather than later and that accurate information is available during a critical time.

Why This Matters on Group Rides

Not every rider knows the wishes, medical needs, or family contacts of the people they ride with. This is especially true on large group rides, charity events, or rides with new members.

BikerDown encourages ride leaders and organizers to include the app as part of their pre-ride safety meetings. Encouraging riders to:

  1. Download the BikerDown HELP App

  2. Complete their emergency and medical information

can significantly improve how quickly and effectively help can be coordinated if an accident occurs.

Real-Time Accident Reporting — Coming Soon

Another feature currently being developed is real-time motorcycle accident reporting. This will allow riders to notify BikerDown of incidents as they happen, helping improve response coordination and situational awareness.

These features are expected to be added in the coming weeks as testing continues.

Helping Riders, Supporting Families

Motorcycle accidents are overwhelming—not just for the injured rider, but for their families as well. By creating a centralized system where emergency information is available when other riders report an incident, the BikerDown HELP App aims to reduce delays, confusion, and uncertainty.

The app doesn’t replace first responders. It enhances what riders already do best: look out for each other.

Riders interested in participating in this growing national effort can search for “BikerDown HELP” on their smartphones and follow along as new features are released.
