CORD, along with ABATE, Biker Down, Bicycle Colorado, Bike Blue, the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, the Property & Casualty Insurance Association of America, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Department of Transportation, AAA and Colorado Drive Safe will be meeting with Senator Lois Court and her Bill Drafter at the end of November to talk about reviving the “Use of Electronic Mobile Devices While Driving” Bill that did not make it through the legislature in 2018.
We need to figure out a way to influence the legislators to understand that this is a people issue, not a party issue. As it impacts everyone, it is a matter of public safety. The laws have not kept up with the pace of technology. And, as the population in Colorado continues to rise, distracted driving is only going to get worse. We need to incent people to put their phones down when they are driving. Driving is not a multi- tasking activity. Three requirements for safe driving involve visual, physical and cognitive awareness. Texting while driving decreases all three of these abilities.
Please Like/Follow the CORD Facebook page to find out how you can help get this bill passed into law in 2019. It will take people from the entire State of Colorado to get this done.
