BikerDown is in our 6th year of adopting families for the holidays program. The program started with the desire to help two families that have suffered a tragic loss due to a motorcycle fatality. While we knew we couldn’t replace the loss they were feeling, we could ensure that the family wasn’t alone and that the children had Christmas under the tree.
The Adopt a Family program has helped almost 200 families over the years and the need to help families in the Denver and surrounding areas continues to grow as rent and the cost of living increases.
As we enter the holiday season many of us begin to feel joy and excitement as every day we get closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, for many families they begin to worry about how they are going to make their children’s Christmas wishes come true.
Each year, Adopt a Family chooses three charities to vet our families. Each family chosen is working a program to better themselves and this is looked at as a reward for their hard work and to make Christmas a little easier on them. This year we have chosen Joshua Station, Joyful Journey’s and Hope House of Colorado. Learn more about these charities online. Links are available from our website.
BikerDown also goes through their list of injured riders who may still be recovering from their injuries and unable to afford Christmas for their children. We also open adoptions for a small number of families from the community.
With the help of Walmart, The O’Sullivan Law firm and other business supporters, families receives a $250.00 gift card so they can select their own gifts. Walmart donates all the food for families to take home and make their own holiday dinner. Adopt a Family has a direct line to Santa Claus and he always comes to visit the children and bring some gifts for them.
This year we are on an aggressive fundraising effort to help 100 families, but we need your help, if you would like to adopt a family, you can go to our website www.adoptafamilytoday.org, see the families in need and help make their dreams come true this holiday season.
